We know it's comfortable standing against the doors. You have both hands available to turn the pages of your book or play games on your cell phone. And you're the first one off the train when it stops. Besides, you hate holding onto those handrails.

But how much does it irk you when your train pulls up and you can see there's plenty of room for you to get on, if everyone would just move into the car?

What about when you're trying to get off the train but people on the platform are pushing to get on? Couldn't they just stand to the side and wait for exiting passengers first? Ughh!

So annoying, right?

Well, aside from being annoying to other passengers and causing unnecessary delays, leaning against doors is also a dangerous risk.

Haven't you been so involved in your book or daydream that you didn't realize the train had reached its next stop?

Be a courteous commuter and a careful one as well. Move into the car.  Give your seat to an elderly or disabled person.

Subway Safety Tips

On the platform, stay behind the designated line.

Don't lean on doors. They may open unexpectedly.

Don't walk or ride between the cars.

If you see something suspicious, like a bag without an owner, report it immediately to a transit worker or police officer.

In the event of an emergency, always stay calm.

Your commute is not the time to practice your "surfing" !
